PC & Mac Install Guide

Install Stremio on Windows, Mac & Linux

Download and set up Stremio on your computer in under 5 minutes. We recommend starting setup on a computer — it makes configuring addons much easier.

Pro tip: Setting up Stremio on a computer first is the best approach. The addon configuration involves browser-based steps that are far easier on a desktop. Once set up, everything syncs to your TV, phone, and tablet automatically.

1
Download the Stremio installer
Click the button below to go to the official Stremio download page and select the Windows version. The installer is a standard .exe file — no technical knowledge needed.
2
Run the installer
Open the downloaded .exe file. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning, click "More info" → "Run anyway" — this is normal for new software. Follow the on-screen steps to complete installation.
3
Create a free account or log in
Open Stremio and click Register to create a free account. If you already have one, click Log In. An account is needed to sync your addons and library across all devices.
4
Set up your addons
This is where the magic happens. Go to the Addons section and install Torrentio — the most popular addon that gives you access to an enormous library of content. Optionally pair it with a debrid service for 4K, buffer-free streaming.

See the complete Addons Guide for a step-by-step walkthrough of setting up Torrentio, debrid services, streaming catalogs, and more.

5
Start watching
Search for any movie or TV show in the top bar. Click a result, choose a stream from the list, and start playing. Your watch progress syncs to all your other devices automatically.
Stremio desktop app on Windows
1
Download Stremio for macOS
Head to the download page and select the macOS version. Stremio is a universal binary that runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) and Intel Macs.
2
Open the .dmg and install
Open the downloaded .dmg file. Drag the Stremio app icon into your Applications folder. Eject the disk image once done.
3
Allow the app to open (first launch only)
On first launch, macOS may say the app is from an unidentified developer. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click "Open Anyway" next to the Stremio warning. You only need to do this once.

This is a standard macOS security prompt for apps not yet listed in the Mac App Store. Stremio is safe to use.

4
Sign in and set up addons
Create a free account or log in. Then head to Addons and install Torrentio to start streaming. See our Addons Guide for the full setup.

Supported distributions: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, and most major distros. Stremio also works great on Steam Deck in desktop mode.

1
Choose your installation format
Stremio is available for Linux in three formats:

• .deb — for Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint and derivatives
• .rpm — for Fedora, openSUSE, Red Hat
• AppImage — runs on any distro without installation
2
Install the package
For .deb (Ubuntu/Debian):
sudo dpkg -i stremio-*.deb

For AppImage: Make it executable with chmod +x Stremio-*.AppImage then run it.
3
Launch Stremio and sign in
Open Stremio from your application launcher or run stremio in a terminal. Log in with your account and set up addons.

Steam Deck users: Switch to Desktop Mode, download the AppImage, make it executable, and run it. Stremio works great with a controller in Big Picture mode.

Next: Set up your addons

Install Torrentio, connect a debrid service, and customize your streaming catalogs.
